NIFL Advocacy Updates

1) Sadly, Jon Randall, with FedStrategics and the National Coalition for Literacy, has had a family emergency. It is my understanding that he should be back, though we do not know when.

2) Campaign organizers will therefore pass along any feedback you get from legislators and/or their staff to the Policy Chair of the National Coalition for Literacy. Your sharing this feedback helps to inform the Coalition's work in supporting the Senate version of WIA Title II reauthorization, while also helping to inform the direction of our campaign.

3) It is my understanding that the National Council of State Directors of Adult Education will be sharing their side-by-side with us, just as soon as it is ready.

4) Lastly, I have been told that the conference committee has not yet been selected but there is still approximately a 50/50 chance that WIA will move forward this spring. This is why we need to act *now* in the *many* ways that we can. This provides a ripe opportunity to make the greatest impact with our actions. I am told that legislative staff do not like to get eleventh hour calls from the field. By acting now, your voices will carry much further in our grass roots advocacy work.

Folks, the field is connected with national work being done on the Hill to support the Senate version of WIA Title II reauthorization; we have captured national attention with the Save NIFL campaign, and the time is ripe for advocacy. If you have contacted your legislators but have not emailed us at savenifl at yahoo.com with legislative feedback, then do so right away! We will be sending all feedback to date to the NCL no later than this Friday, January 30th.

And if you have not contacted your legislators, then by all means, act now. Send faxes, follow up with calls. Talk to them.

Jon, if you are out there listening, we wish you and your family the best during these difficult times. Stay well.

Warmest wishes,

Jackie
