Dear colleague,

From late October to early December I moderated an online discussion
about a National Center for the Study of Adult Learning and Literacy
(NCSALL) paper, "Establishing an Evidence-based Adult Education
System." More than 200 adult literacy educators from across North
America joined in. The purpose of the work group was “to have a
thoughtful conversation about establishing an Evidence-based Adult
Education System” in the United States. Messages, from practitioners
and researchers, were posted in response to three sets of questions.

A second discussion will take place from late January into February,
2004. The purpose is to provide an opportunity for a broad range of
adult literacy education practitioners, researchers and others to read,
react to, and add to the first discussion.

A synthesis of the first discussion will be found at

	http://www.alri.org/Rosen/ebae.htm

The NCSALL paper can be downloaded from

	http://gseweb.harvard.edu/~ncsall/

Subscribers to the new discussion will want to read the paper and the
synthesis of the first discussion.
