Colleagues:
I wanted to recognize Massachusetts for their efforts to preserve NIFL's focus on adults! Two days ago, an alert was e-mailed to hundreds of adult literacy advocates on the Massachusetts Coalition for Adult Education E-mail Alert system. Since then, the word has continued to spread across the state. One local resource center's efforts also provides us yet another idea on how we can act now in this important endeavor.

If your state education agency, state (or regional) literacy resource center or your state adult education professional organization has a newsletter or e-mail update list, you could post an announcement about the Save NIFL campaign. Here's an example of one published in a literacy resource center newsletter in Massachusetts:

"Messages to the AAACE-NLA discussion list have reported that NIFL (the National Institute for Literacy) is in danger of losing its adult literacy focus as a result of the WIA reauthorization process, thus putting at risk all the various adult literacy-focused initiatives supported by NIFL. A national campaign has been launched to preserve
NIFL's adult literacy-oriented mission. To find out more about the situation and about how you can get involved, visit http:/www.altn.org/ and click on the "NIFL Info"button. To subscribe to the AAACE-NLA discussion list, visit

Thanks to all in Massachusetts for their timely response. I look forward to seeing many names of advocates from this state in the Advocacy Hall of Honor.

Who else is organizing to preserve NIFL's focus on adults and families?

Best,
Jackie
