[AAACE-NLA] ACTION: Save NIFL Campaign

If we are going to improve national literacy programming, we are going to
have to learn how to successfully mobilize grassroot efforts.

I have been to savenifl.org and it is not clear if this site or other
efforts are to keep nifl for adult literacy only (as "Preserve NIFL's focus
on Adults" appears to indicate)or if a adult, child and family literacy
effort would be acceptable. Talking points and FAQs do not make this clear.
Highlights of what the Senate and House bills propose should be available.
Many people do not have the time to read complicated legislation to figure
this out. Are we talking about cuts that MAY lead to cuts in certain
existing programs/activities OR are certain programs/activities, such as
listservs, EFF, Bridges to Practice, etc. being targeted?

And if an adult ONLY focus is being advocated, please explain why. From my
perspective, it doesn't make sense to have an adult only focus especially if
building bridges to where people are (particularly current power bases) is a
fundamental aspect of coalition building.

Subject: [AAACE-NLA] ACTION: Save NIFL Campaign

Adult literacy advocacy colleagues,

A grassroots campaign has begun to save the National Institute for
Literacy's original focus on adults. A Web site with information on what
the problem is, and what you can do about it, will be ready soon. A message
from concerned practitioners in our field will be posted here in the next
day or two.

Watch for these, and get ready to take action.
