Hi, Carl - in a new publication we just finished for the Center for Law and
Social Policy we list a number of programs that serve adult immigrants who
are new to Engish and transitioning to work. The policy brief is at the link
below and should have a reference to the full report which contains the case
studies - the are at the very end of the full report called "The Language
of Opportunity: Expanding Employment Opportunities for Adults with Limited
English Skills"

There are some additional programs that didn't make it into the publication
because we did not get a chance to do site visits but I can tell you more
about those in separate emails

Good luck

Our organization is compiling promising practices in literacy. We are
looking for quality adult ESOL programs/models that are not workforce
related or where workplace ESOL is the major focus of the program. We would
be interested in programs that include quality assessments, have innovative
curricula, use technology, and can document improvements in English
proficiency.

Subject: RE: adult ed K-12 links on aaace list

For some time I have pondered the value of actively fostering
collaborations and dialog between the K-12 systems and adult ed, as have
many in our field. Even in places where both programs are run by the
same
school district, there is little contact between the two.

One place where a start might be made is to request that adult ed
teachers be allowed to attend inservice sessions designed for high
school teachers that seem relevant. As district employees, they can
hardly be barred! But first the adult ed teachers need to have the
attitude that they can and should both share their knowledge in such
sessions as well as seek out input from the high school people.

Any other ideas?
 Best, Debbie
