I have used the NIFL lists for many years. I have found them extremely useful in building connections with a literacy community in the US. While we disagree in many things, I feel I know a lot of the people that devote their lives to literacy and adult education acrross the country. I feel that we share a bond and that we are linked together in many ways. I have made friends with many of them. In fact I do not know many of them personally, and yet I do consider them my friends. They have been wonderful resources for knowledge, grant funding opportunities, general information, etc.

On many occassions people that i met on the lists have written letters of support and have advocated for myself and/or my program. I know that the lists have a lot of limitations, and I and others have been critical of many aspects of them. However, I believe that the lists have built a strong community of literacy advocates that have strengthen the field overall. I think that the field is a lot better and a lot stronger because of them.
