To Whom It May Concern:

I teach English Second Language for a non-profit organization in Alaska.
We have had over a hundred Americorps volunteers in the past. They act as
teachers, advisors and assistants to people throughout Alaska. This year we
have been designated only five positions. Without our volunteers, we will
not be able to offer classes to students seeking GED certificates or English
skills necessary to obtain jobs. If these clients can not speak English or
do not possess a GED certificate, they will not be able to get jobs. If
they don¹t have jobs, they will have to depend on public assistance for
survival. Therefore, taking money away from Americorps insures that
millions of people will have to remain on public assistance. It does not
make sense to cut funding for volunteers who are willing to donate their
time to ensure that Americans obtain independence and security. Please do
everything you can to reinstate the funding necessary to continue such a
successful program as Americorps.

Thank you for your consideration,
