Thanks to Linda, David and others who sent the right URL for the Workforce
Literacy Study. I look forward to reading it and discussing findings and
implications with others
Elise Richer, Julie Strawn, Hitomi Kubo, Karin mARTINS and I are finishing a
policy document on the need to beef up the employment training system and
provide quality services that connect basic skills, ESL and training for
immigrants and refugees who are new to English and have few prospects for
jobs that help sustain a family (most of our sentences are shorter than this
one)
The paper will be available on the web site for CLASP (Center for Law and
Social Policy) - next month and I'll post the details on the web site
Cheers
Heide

Hi, all -
The link to the study seems to have disappeared from their web site of the
New Mexico Coalition for Literacy. Has anyone found it in other places?

David,
Thanks for sending this out. It confirms the experiences that our clients
and abe providers have had in Indiana. Diane and Judy seemed to do a fine
job on this.
I saw Judy Hofer last week at a meeting. She seems a great person and will
do good things with training there. That's what I think anyway.
Kaye

Subject: [AAACE-NLA]Workforce Literacy Research Study Released
The New Mexico Coalition for Literacy has just completed and released a
research study entitled, "The Workforce Paradox for Adults with Limited
Literacy and English Language Proficiency: A Report from the Field,
February, 2003."
This project consisted of a study of the One Stop Career Centers in New
Mexico and their effectiveness in serving adults with limited literacy
and/or English language skills. It was conducted in 2002 with funding from
the New Mexico Department of Labor. Diane Pinkey and Judy Hofer of the New
Mexico Coalition for Literacy were the principal researchers for this
project.
