F.Y.I. and much needed at this time ...
This was attached to a message I read from Meg Young, Oregon Literacy's ED.
Grant Opportunity for New Community Organizing Groups(added May 7,
2003)
The Center for Community Change's Small Grants Program provides seed
grants to emerging local groups for organizing and for the training
and technical assistance these groups need to effectively engage in
these activities. A "local group" is defined as a neighborhood-based
organization or a coalition of neighborhoods in a local area.
The Program is funded by the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation,
which is interested in strengthening organizations that have a
community organizing focus and to the extent possible, are
multifaceted, not single issue in orientation.
Priority will be given to emerging groups in low-income communities
of color that are engaged in organizing for institutional change.
The primary service region for this program are the states of
Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, District of Columbia, West Virginia,
Tennessee, Florida, Wyoming, Idaho, Utah, Montana, Nevada,
Oregon, and Washington, although there can be exceptions to this
guideline.
Most CCC grants have been in the $3,000 to $8,000 range, but
grants can be as large as $15,000. Grantees also receive technical
assistance from the Center for Community Change of at least two site
visits with additional follow-up, and will also include a networking
conference experience.
Application deadline is June 3. Funding decisions will be made by
August 15, 2003. To have an application sent to a group you are
working with, or for questions about the application and selection
process, contact Barbara Hansen at the Center for Community Change,
at (213) 743-3940 x43 or bhansen at communitychange.org
Deadline: June 3, 2003
