AAACE-NLA Colleagues,

Today, at a meeting in NYC, I joined several adult literacy program
managers and teachers during the 15 minute break in cell-phoning our
Congressional representatives. We were delighted at how many of our
Congresspeople had already decided to vote against H.R. 1261. And for
those who had not made up their mind, we felt their offices were
actively listening.

H.R. 1261, the House version of the WIA reauthorization legislation,
("The Workforce Reinvestment and Adult Education Act of 2003") passed by
only 16 votes (220-to 204.) This is a good message to the Senate where
we may now have an even better chance of improved WIA reauthorization
language coming out of the Senate H.E.L.P. Committee.

To see how your Representative voted, please visit
http://clerkweb.house.gov/cgi-bin/vote.exe?year=2003&rollnumber=175 .

If they voted against H.R. 1261, please call back to thank them.

Good work everyone who called their Congressperson on such short notice!

We await the word from Jon Randall now on Senate language on WIA
reauthorization.

David J. Rosen
