Progress on Spring Advocacy Speaking Tour April 29, 2003
Tom Sticht
Recalling that this list is focussed on advocacy, I thought I would report
on the progress of the advocacy speaking tour that I announced earlier
this year on the National Literacy Advocates (NLA) list to celebrate and
advance the cause of adult literacy education. Earlier I announced that I
was offering to speak without fee at adult literacy education conferences
or other meetings.
As of now, I have completed the following presentations for this Spring:
March 16: Long Beach, CA National Conference on Family Literacy where
around 125 adult educators attended my session on teaching adult reading
and the intergenerational transfer of literacy.
March 26: Boston, Ma Massachusetts Family Literacy Consortium Meetings
attended by around 75-100 adult educators and legislators at the
Massachusetts State House in Boston where my presentations focussed on the
return on investments (ROI) ( "double duty dollars" ) in adult literacy
education.
April 3: Denver, CO Adult Education & Family Literacy and Center for
At-Risk Education Spring Rendezvous Conference 2003 where some 200 adult
educators and some state legislators heard my presentation on The Power of
Adult Education: Lessons Learned .
My Spring advocacy speaking tour concludes with presentations on The Power
of Adult Education: Lessons Learned as follows:
May 16am: West Palm Beach, FL Palm Beach County Literacy Coalition
May 16pm: Fort Lauderdale, FL Palm Beach County Literacy Coalition
If anyone would like additional information about this Spring series of
advocacy presentations you can contact me off the AAACE-NLA list.
