The National Center for ESL Literacy Education (NCLE) will host a symposium on "Issues and Challenges in Assessment and Accountability for Adult English Language Learners" at its headquarters in Washington, DC. The symposium will
· Provide a forum for educators, researchers, and policy makers to discuss how the national focus on assessment and accountability affects instructional services for adult English language learners.
· Propose future directions in assessment and accountability in the field of adult English as a second language education in the United States.
A panel of experts will discuss these issues from national and state perspectives, describe how valid and reliable assessments are developed and used, and talk about specific assessment frameworks and tools.
